**This pertains to men and woman (sons daughter)even though pronouns state masculine.
The Use of the Tongue
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
Even one grievous word stirs up anger.Any discussion that becomes heated automatically becomes an uncontrolled discussion,which will only lead to more”wrath”.
Self is the cause of heated exchanges. Only when self is properly hidden in Christ is the “soft”answer”possible.
Rosemary speaking.. Lord,how we all need self control with our tongue, your word states”out of the heart,the mouth speaks, (Luke 6:45)oh how wretched are our sinful hearts more than we know. Search my Heart Lord find and heal any wicked way within it. Thank You Jesus.
2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
The”wise” are those who know their Bibles. “Fools” are those who do not know their Bibles. The first “uses knowledge aright”the latter”pours out foolishness”.
3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
This Proverb portrays the Omnipresence of God,meaning that He is everywhere. Such constant observation is terrible unsettling to the unspiritual heart,but,to those who know and love their Redeemer,such knowledge is invigorating to the spirit and comforting to the soul.
Rosemary speaking.. Yes. Lord it truly is comforting to know you are with me. For unsaved people it is like Adam and Eve who tries to hide their sinful nature by covering himself with fig leaves. They are deceived that you don’t know their sin and they run away from you(knowing and unknowing)Lord I pray that the unsaved be convicted of their sinful nature and break spirit of pride,Repent and turn to you knowing no matter what they do,they realize only the blood shed of Jesus on the cross can wash away their sins.In Jesus Holy name I pray, Amen.
4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.
The gist of this Proverb is that the Christ-controlled life is a”tree of life”while the life that is not controlled by Christ is “perverse”and becomes a broken tree(Gal 2:20)
5 A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
The unteachable spirit is one where self rules,and Christ does not rule.
Contrasts Between the Righteous and the Wicked
6 In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
Much “treasure”is the unsearchable riches of Christ.
7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.
In many and varied ways,the Holy SPirit constantly calls attention to”the wise”whose knowledge is from the Bible;conversely,He calls “fools”those who do not adhere to the Word of God.
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.
The worship of the self-willed(Vs.8)and the way(conduct)of the self-willed(Vs.9)are both abominable. Such was Cains worship and conduct. Abel illustrates the prayer of the upright and God’s way of righteousness.
Rosemary ‘s notes….Lord, so many people want to and attempt to worship,beleive,interpret you in their selfish prideful way. They are deceived and bound by REBELLION and PRIDE. You are so HOLY and PERFECT,you give us direction on your word and by reading the Bible ones needs to get an understanding of how PERFECT,HOLY,ORDERLY you are.Time and time again you state not by your will but by mine. If they only knew how your Spirit can guide them into holiness and that we are so sinful and cannot do things on our own. I pray their “FLESH”be quickened and dead and they will ill know you and worship you in Spirit and ion Truth-SPIRIT is being “BORN AGAIN” “TRUTH” is receiving the LORD JESUS CHRIST and the BIBLE. In JESUS Holy name,I pray. Amen
11 Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?
This Proverb like Vs 3,proclaims all open to the Lord,as well as the unseen world. Also,only God knows the hearts of men!
12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.
The”scorner”holds the”wise”in disdain,because he feels his way is right and,therefore,does not need correction or reproof. Such an intractable spirit will not abide by the Bible.
Rosemary speaking… My Lord,this Proverb holds true to so so many people who are controlled by the pride of life(Satans stronghold and downfall)I pray you work upon these rebellious hearts,break them and allow your spirit to move on them to repentance ,to see that only you are TRUE LIFE”and self will only leads to death”physically and spiritually”.In Jesus holy name ,I pray. Amen.
13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
The true”merry heart”can only come about by Christ abiding in the heart(AKA BORN AGAIN experience,salvation)and having complete control(AKA no self will and flesh working).Then the”heart”is not moved by good or bad news,but its the joy in the LORD.
Rosemary speaking..Wow how we are a work in progress Lord,we are human and are controlled by emotions in our minds-Help me Lord to only see things in the spirit.
14 The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.
The Holy Spirit,once again,calls our attention to the fact that the Bible is the fountainhead of knowledge and we speak of the way that life should be lived.
15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.
The”merry heart”has to do with total occupation of Christ.
16 Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.
Christ is a substitute for every good thing;nothing is a substitute for Him.
17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
Better is a poor man’s dinner where love is than a rich mans feast where hatred and strife are.
18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
Anger only stirs up more anger;he who shows coolness under fire calms the strife.
19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.
The knowledge of the Word of God alone and it applied to our hearts and lives can keep us from unnecessary thorns.
20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
A wise son honors his parents but a foolish one despises them.
21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.
Understanding is the joy to the upright,while”folly”is the joy to the fool.
22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
The”multitude of counselors “are the books of the Bible.
23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
The only safe”word”is the “Word of God”.It is good in any “season.”It always brings “joy.”It should always be the “answer of the mouth.”
24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
Only this”way of life”which is Chris and Him crucified will spare one from”Hell beneath.”
25 The Lord will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.
The “widow” is used as a symbol for the humbled and abased. God will exhaust humility and abase pride(Luke 18:14)
26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.
“Pleasant words” come from the Bible. They are sure to be “pure”.The Blood of Jesus,along with the word of God,bring purity and that alone.
27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
The love of money is the root of all evil.This means that the present day greed message troubles God’s house.
28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
The “righteous”studies his heart to know what the Bible says about any particular question.
29 The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
To those who have the “imputed Righteousness”of the Lord as well,it is guaranteed that their prayer will be heard. What comfort!
30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.
The light and glad tidings of the Gospel rejoice the heart and make fat the bones.
31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
The”reproof of life”is the Word of God and the word of God alone!
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
The”instruction”that the Bible gives is not only for man’s good,but,in effect is the only way of Salvation. If it is refused,it is a sin and against one’s soul.
33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
“humility”is the foundation of all Christlikeness.The only personal thing that Christ said about Himself was,”I am meek,lowly in heart”(Matt 11:29)

Scripture definition of “MEEK” A spiritually meek person is not “self-willed”-not continually concerned with his own ways,ideas and wishes. They are willing to put themselves second place and submit themselves to achieve what is good to others.Meekness is therefore the antithesis(opposite)of self-will,self -interest and self-assertiveness.
Greek concordance-Meek-gentleness,mild-Biblical “meekness”is not weakness but rather exercising God’s strength under His control-eg..demonstrating power without undue harshness.
LOWLY
Scripture definition of “lowly”being humble in feeling or demeanor;not proud or ambitious. Modest or unpretending.
Strongs concordance “lowly” inner lowlifes describing the person who depends on the Lord rather than self. God-reliant rather than self reliant,humble.
