Proverbs Chapter 14-Taken from Jimmy Swaggart Expositers Study Bible

Proverbs Chapter 14  ***This pertains to male and female not just(he)being male***

Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

Over and over again, the Holy Spirit alludes to the”woman”whether “strange”,”evil”,”foolish”,”gracious”or”virtuous”. In this verse,He speaks both of the”wise”and”foolish”woman in the building of their”house”.

He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the Lord: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.

Once again, our attention is called to”the fear of the Lord”or the lack of such.We learn from this and many other similarScriptures that the Holy Spirit puts great stock in the”fear of the Lord”.

In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

“Pride” is the foundation of all sin.  It produces the fountainhead of sin, which is unbelief. those who speak in a prideful way are called”foolish”by the Holy Spirit. The conversation of the “wise”is of humility and, thereby;preserves them.

Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

The sense of the “Passage”is that “you cant make an omelet without breaking some eggs”.

As long as there is activity, there’s going to be some untidiness, but there will always be increase.

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

Men are not liars because they lie;they lie because they are liars.

A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.

The scornful Pharisee professed to seek wisdom and found nothing;to the understanding Ethiopian, knowledge was easy(Acts Chapt 8)Jesus is Wisdom. He was a stumbling stone to the Pharisee, but a steeping stone to the Ethiopian.

Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.

This is the Law of Separation(2Corinthians 6:14-18)The only “lips of knowledge”are those that know the Word of God.

The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.

The only way that one can”understand his way”is to know the Bible.Such is spoken by the Holy Spirit as “wise and prudent”.

Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.

Fools mock the Sin Offering(the Atonement),but among the righteous it is prized.

10 The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.

The “heart”that is spoken here is the “heart”of a Christian. One who is a”stranger”to God and His Ways has no knowledge of the burden that is carried or the”joy”that resides in the heart of a Christian.

11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

The “upright”is a pilgrim, and as such, has no “house,”but rather a tent. This world is not his home and he is seeking a city whose Builder and Maker is God. To the unspiritual eye, such looks not at all stable. But the Holy Spirit says the opposite.

12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Salvation by sacraments and personal merit(in other words, any way other than the Cross)is to most men an acceptable way to eternal life, but,in reality it leads to death. the right way is “Jesus Christ and Him Crucified”, and that alone (1Corinthians 1:23)

13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.

A false way of salvation of which many abound, may bring momentary surface”laughter”. but it will not, and in fact, cannot satisfy the hunger and craving of the human heart. When it;’s all over, the”heart”is “sorrowful” and”heavy”.

14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

This speaks of the fact that the”backslider” backslides in his heart first before it becomes outwardly observable.

15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

Two individuals are placed before us;”the simple” and the”prudent”. Irrespective of their education,God calls “simple” those who believe every word, except the Bible. The Holy Spirit calls”prudent” the one who”looks well to his going,”which refers to searching out the Bible for its direction.

16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

The”wise man”believes the Bible, fears God and “departs from evil.

17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

The quickly angered will always deal foolishly. As well, the cool tempered intriguer is the opposite of the above, but his coolness under pressure does not denote piety, but rather a scheming for personal gain. Both the quick tempered and the intriguer are led by their own impulses and not by God. Both will lead to wrong paths.

18 The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

To the unspiritual ear,Verse 18 seems to be a repetition of Verse 15,however the Holy Spirit, from many directions, attempts to get us to understand that He calls those who do not believe the Bible”simple”irrespective of their otherwise,so called education.

19 The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

Good will eventually triumph, even though at present it seems impossible.

20 The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.

Jesus was despised and hated(Isaiah Chapt 53)

21 He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he. In this Proverb, the Lord tells us that He will look after”the poor”who trust in Him.

22 Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.

Concerning the affairs of life, all that is devised outside of the Bible is “evil”.All the truly”good”that is devised comes from the Bible, and will give”mercy” and”truth”.

23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

There are many who talk much but do nothing. those who truly”labor”will know”profit”(Mat 6:7)

24 The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.

Riches do not make a fool cease his “foolishness”;even though he is rich,he is still a”fool”.

25 A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.

A Preacher of the True Gospel of Jesus Christ is a true witness and greatly helps men;the Preacher of”modern thought”and another”gospel”propagates falsehood and thereby, leads men to destructioin(2corinthians 11:4)

26 In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

Once again, the Holy Spirit points to the”fear of the Lord”. Such is the foundation of true righteousness.

27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

To escape eternal death and be united to life, there is one sure and only way;it is the fear(HOLY FEAR)of Jehovah. That means to love, serve, and follow the Lord Jesus Christ(Luke 9:23-24)

28 In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

AT the present,”The King”;(The Lord Jesus Christ)does not have “the multitude”on His side. In the coming of the Kingdom Age,this will change, and all will serve Him.

29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

The quick tempered are that way for a reason:such shows pride and thereby lack of trust in God. The one who is”slow to wrath”and is,thereby,”of great understanding”shows that his dependence is in the Lord and not in himself.

Rosemary speaking.. Lord ,even though we are justified and righteous in your eyes when we gave our hearts to you and are”Born Again” our hearts need to be sanctified here in this earth to reflect who you are. Search me Oh God and find there any wicked way within me-Sanctify me and enable me to repent and be aware of anything that is NOT of You.

30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

In this Proverb, the Holy Spirit is portraying to us the secret of good health. A “sound heart”is the heart that is right with God.No envy, jealousy, pride, malice, greed or hatred abides there. If such abides, we are told it “rots the bones”

Rosemary speaking.. Lord the closer we get to knowing you, reading your word and understanding(WHICH the BIBLE IS YOU)the more we see sin in us and see how wicked our hearts truly are. The sinful nature keeps surfacing. Keeping our laser beam focus only on you and what you have accomplished on the cross sanctifies us to be more Christlike and depletes the sinful nature still within us. Let this journey be victorious!.Thank you for what you have done at the cross. I love You..

31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.

Most of the world oppresses the poor and thereby reproach God,because God made all men, whether they be rich or poor. Then the Holy Spirit plainly tells us that if we honor God,we will have”mercy” on the poor.

32 The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

Belshazzar illustrates the first line of this Verse’the Apostle Paul the second line.

33 Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.

The sense of this Proverb is that a wise man does not display his wisdom, but a fool parades all he knows.

34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

This holds true for any nation. “Much Bible, much freedom;little Bible, little freedom;no Bible no freedom.

35 The king's favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.

The”wise servant”will know his Bible, and consequently has “understanding.”

Proverbs Chapter 13-Taken from Jimmy Swaggart Expositers Study Bible

Proverbs 13     **Pertains to Sons and Daughters****

13 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

The surface meaning of this passage is obvious;constructive criticism by the wise is needed. Those who are not wise, scorn the rebuke and continue on their erroneous way.

A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

In a spiritual sense, the”Fruit of our mouth”should be the Wordrd of God.

The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

This passage proclaims the blessing of the work ethic and the poverty of the lazy.

A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

The entirety of the worlds system which is “Godless”is based on “lying”,hence all the problems.

Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

The obvious sense is that”wickedness”will ultimately bring the “sinner”to ruin, and that”Righteousness”which can only be supplied by Christ and is freely imputed y Him,will guarantee success.

There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

This speaks of those who have much money;but yet they are very poor, simply because they are selfish and give no help to anyone. Then there are those who use what comes into their hands as a blessing to others. In the things that really count they have”great riches”.

The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

The sense of this Passage is that the hoarding of wealth makes a mans life his”ransom”.In other words, because of his riches,he is the target in many respects.

The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

The “light”of the”righteous” is the”light”that comes from the Bible. It is the”light”that Christ produces in the lives of His followers. Such brings rejoicing.

10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

“Pride”is the foundation of all sin(Prov 6:16-17)It stems from Satan as humility stems fromChrist. “Pride” breeds “contention”,because its ever seeking its own. Humility, which can only be given by Christ, generates”wisdom”. The Holy SPirit calls such”well advised”.

11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

The sense of this passage is that”wealth”gathered by labor benefits society, but”wealth”obtained by gambling, crime or any other means is”vanity. It is useless to the well being of society.

12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

All “hope”outside of Christ is never realized. All “hope”In Christ is ever realized.

13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

The”Word of God”is the only answer for the ills of man. As well, one can only know the Word if one also knows its author.

14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

The”wise”to who the Holy Spirit refers are those who adhere to the Word of God. God has ordained it a “Law”that such will be a”fountain of life”. everything outside of the Bible is a”snare of death”.

15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

Those who transgress the Word of God will find their way hard.

16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

The spiritual sense of the Proverb is that all true”knowledge”comes from the Bible, and the man who seeks this”knowledge” is prudent(wise).

17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

If an”ambassador”is”faithful”to the Bible,he will bring messages of “health”;if not, then”mischief”.

18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

If the individual faithfully follows the instruction given by the Word of God,he will at the same time, highly regard the”reproof”of those who try to instruct him for the better.

Rosemary speaking..Yes,this is very important! If we don’t,well then we are of  the sin of pride. We must pray constantly to abolish this sin in us. PRIDE and Rebellion.

19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

To obtain what is really desirable demands self -denial. But it is most distasteful to a fool to obtain anything

worthful by the surrender of worthless and injurious pleasures.

20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

Every Christian should diligently search for the Preacher who preaches the whole Counsel of God. If he does otherwise,he is associating with”fools”and will come to destruction.

21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

God’s law is that if a person wills evil,God wills evil unto them. If he wills”good”the Lord also wills”good”to him(Gal 6:7)

22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

The term”laid up”as it pertains to the”wealth of the sinner”refers to the coming Kingdom Age,when the meek shall inherit the Earth.(Matt 5:5)

23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

The sense of this Proverb is that”the poor” are in their state partly because of bad management. They have very little foresight. When they get something, they quickly spend it and very seldom endeavor to plan ahead.

24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

Hatred spares the rod;love uses it

25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

This,as well, constitutes a Law of God:”the righteous”are content with moderate desires and pleased with their lot in life. Conversely,”the wicked”regardless of  how much they have, are never satisfied.

Proverbs Chapter 12-Taken fron Jimmy Swaggart Expositers Study Bible

Proverbs-Chapter 12    **Pertains to women and men****

Foolish and Wise Contrasted

1Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

The Bible gives instruction which generates knowledge. This has to do with the true knowledge of life. Much knowledge is generated in other capacities and may or may not be true; however, the knowledge that pertains to life is only found in the Bible.

A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.

“Favor of the Lord” is the highest attainment of any seeker. It is stated that only a “good man” can secure such.;however, the”goodness” is only that which God gives. There is a”goodness”devised by the world and even at times by the Church, that God will never accept nor recognize AKA RELIGION and its man made practices. He will accept only that comes from Himself

A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

Irrespective of money, power, position,a man who has built such by”wickedness”will know no lasting security.

A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

Ruth is an example of “a virtuous woman” Ruth 3:11

The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

So much is said here in such a short Verse. The troubles of the entirety of the world are wrapped up in this Proverb. Regrettably, there are prescious few who are”righteous” with many who are”wicked” Consequently”deceit”characterizes the dealings of man.

The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

Upright men benefit society, but evil men destroy a nation.

Rosemary speaking…This is so prevalent in our nation. This is why you see organizations attempting, prosecuting the ones who preserve and preach the word of God. They twist the word of God around and accuse it as “HATE SPEECH “.Satan is the accuser of the Bretheren.

The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.

The”House of the Righteous”refers to that which is built upon the “Rock”who is the Lord Jesus Christ(Mat 7:24)

A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.

To get”His Wisdom” we must learn”His Word”.

He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.

The one”despised”in this verse is different than the one”despised”in Verse 8. The one in Verse8 is”despised”by God. In this Verse,he is “commended”by God. God despises those who do not adhere to His Word and the world despises those who do.

Rosemary speaking..Yes,TRUTH,this is why government LGBTQ organization and beyond wants to prosecute anyone who preaches “TRUTH “”GODS Word and to shut their mouths. To make illegal any form of Gods instruction Psychology Therapy for Transgender ect..

10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

The Holy Spirit regards animals and contends that a “righteous man” will have mercy.

11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.

The Bible extols the value of honest labor. Absence of the Bible promotes vanity and lack of understanding.

12 The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.

“The net of evil men”denotes what is caught in it. Consequently hundreds of thousands,or even millions of young people desire what is caught in the net of the drug pushers or of Hollywood. The envy these supposed high dividends and desire the same. However, the fruit that is produced comes from a”corrupt tree” and produces”evil fruit”(Mat 7:17)

The good tree which is “the righteous”yields”good fruit”.

13 The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.

God does not promise an absence of trouble for those who follow the teachings of the Bible; however,He does promise that”the just”shall be delivered out of trouble.

14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.

The”man”addressed here is “the just” of Verse 13. The”fruit of his mouth”will be”good”because it comes from”Wisdom”,which is the bible(Vs8)

15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

16 A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.

The”fool”is the one who does not believe in the Bible. He trusts his”own”way. God calls him a”fool”. The sixteenth verse means that a fool will make his wrath known at once when he is offended, but a wise man will hold his peace.

17 He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.

The only”truth”that can be addressed is that which is of”Christ”.He Alone”shows forth righteousness”all else is a”false witness”and”spawns”deceit”.

18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

Thank God for a few Preachers who have”the tongue of the wise”,which is the Bible, which gives Spiritual”health”.

19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

Those who forsake the Bible have a”lying tongue.”What they say only lasts for a moment, because it changes with the telling.

Rosemary speaking….AINT THAT THE TRUTH….OUR Current government is PROOF of that and beyond.

20 Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

Deception is Satans greatest weapon and his children”imagine evil”because”deceit is in their hearts.”

21 There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.

This means tha no”evil”can come from the “Wisdom”of the Bible. There is no fear of such in its”counsel”.

22 Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

It is impossible to “deal truly”and thereby,be”a delight”to the Lord without abiding by the Bible.Anything other than the Bible results in”lying lips”and is an”abomination”to the Lord.

23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.

The”prudent man conceals knowledge”because the world is little interested in his”knowledge”because his”knowledge”comes from the Bible;consequently, the world feeds on”foolishness”.

24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

Those who adhere to the work ethic of the Bible will prosper. Those who do not adhere to the work ethic of the Bible will find themselves in debt.

Rosemary speaking..What is Gods work ethic? Many verses in scripture explain this..

1Corinthians 10:31 “So whatever you eat, drink,or whatever you do,do all to the glory to God.”

Whatever you do,work heartily,as for the Lord and not for men, knowing from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Jesus Christ”Colossians 3:23-24

Rosemarys notes

*****SO IMPORTANT IN OUR WORK ETHICS!***

With anything and everything we do,we should always ask ourselves this question:”Does this bring glory to God?”

Philippians 2:14-15 Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, amount whom you shine as lights in the world.”

Rosemary speaking.

(Simply means come out from among them and be ye separate,do not include yourself with the crowd at work grumbling, doing things that you know are not of God,we are to be ambassadors and represent God in our ways)

Psalm 128:2 You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands;you shall be blessed and it shall be well with you.

Rosemarys notes…if you work for the Lord, when Christ returns in the Kingdom age you will reap and eat the fruit in abundance and be blessed.

Psalm 90:17-“Let the favor of the Lord be upon us,and establish the work of our hands upon us;yes, establish the work of our hands.

There is no beauty on Earth except what is given by the Lord.as well, the “work of our hands” is nothing unless it is established by God.

****Romans 12:11****Do not be slothful in business,be fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.

We must work diligently, fervently, attention to detail with responsibility; we should always be fervent in the Holy Spirit, serving Him and looking for His guidance in everything we do.

******Proverbs 21:25  The desire of the sluggard kills him,for his hands refuse to labor

The “desire “of the lazy is that he be able to eat, drink and be loathed and be housed without working for it.

The LORD despises this!

***Proverbs 14:23 in all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.

There are many who talk much, but do nothing. Those who truly”labor”will know “profit”(Matt 6:7)

2Thessalonians 3:10-12

For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

If a person is lazy and wont work, then let them do without. In other words,it’s wrong to give money to someone of this nature. Sponging off others is wrong! Quit being busybodies, attempting to meddle in other peoples affairs. Let them tend to their own business.

Proverbs 12:27

The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

The”slothful man”who attempts to make his living by devious means, contributes nothing to the community. conversely,”the diligent man”provides substance, which is”prescious”for the community.

25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.

The “good word”that is truly spoken of here is the”Word of God. only it can truly make the heart”glad”.

26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.

“The righteous”who comes from Christ.blesses his neighbor, while “the wicked”seduces his neighbor.

27 The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

The”slothful man”who attempts to make his living by devious means, contributes nothing to the community. conversely,”the diligent man”provides substance, which is”prescious”for the community.

28 In the way of righteousness is life: and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

The “Way of Righteousness”is the “Way of the Bible.”It alone brings “life”which stems from Christ.
